50th Anniversary Holy Trinity School for the Hearing-Impaired On September 16, teachers and students of the Holy Trinity School for the Deaf, present and past, joined together to celebrate 50 years of service to the deaf community. In 1957, Catholic Charities was given two classrooms for children with special needs at Holy Trinity Grade School on Taylor St., Chicago, Il. Then Sisters of Christian Charity (SCC), Jean Krieter, Rosaria Schlechter, and Phyllis Winter, were trained to teach the blind and the deaf students. Phyllis Winter remained at Holy Trinity after leaving the SCC community and later became principal and now president of the Children of Peace consolidated school for hearing and hearing-impaired students. Sisters of the Living Word, Jean and Rosaria, taught the deaf and the blind respectively at different locations in Chicago. It was a great celebration of a mission to special needs children. Phyllis, Jean and Rosaria were all greeted by former students and parents.
