In May, Joel and I attended the Association for Enterprise Opportunity in Kansas City, MO.  We met and networked with other micro enterprise practitioners, received invaluable training, and met Dr. Muhammad Yunus, recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Dr. Yunus told us that his work with beggars in Bangladesh  will not work in North America.  Rather, he challenged US micro enterprise practitioners to help create socially-conscious businesses that allow entrepreneurs to make a decent living and provide needed goods and services to the local economy.  This is what the SLW do at Sacred Heart Southern Missions!  Secondly, Dr. Yunus challenged Americans to view investing as a service to the larger community rather than as a means to extract large amounts of money from the economy.

It is inspiring to see our Living Word Mission applicable to economics, ethics and financing.
