Rosaria Schlechter, SLW

In her 57 years in education, Sr. Rosaria has served as principal and teacher in various places. During this time, the Community also asked her to teach Braille to blind students as part of a Catholic Charities project, which she did for 11 years on the south side of Chicago. In 1981, when she left her position as principal at St. Raphael in Chicago, Illinois, Kathleen Heer, SLW became the new principal.

In 2005, Sr. Rosaria retired from her service as a full-time Middle School Teacher, teaching mainly Religion, Language Arts and Math, at St. Mark in St. Paul, Minnesota for the last 24 years. In 2006, they asked her to come back as a part-time teacher assistant for the 5th grade and she accepted that.

During her days at work, she helps wherever needed. Assisting individuals or groups of students that are struggling to better understand the lesson, and even joins in their activities, including the marathon!

In addition to her current ministry, she also works with the SLW Associate program. She helps the elderly, lonely and sick through communication. She'll phone them or write letters in support. In her "free time", she enjoys going out to eat with friends, seeing an occasional movie, attending concerts, reading and keeping up with the Internet and her e-mails!

Sr. Rosaria's journey has been one with God. Over the years she has been able to instill her love into the children she has taught. She has truly been a "Living Word" to everyone she meets!
