Sr.
Brenda was born February 7, 1948 in Waconia, MN.
She attended Marillac College in Normandy, MO, Felician College
and Chicago Theological Union both in Chicago, IL.
Brenda's ministry to the poor and homeless found its home on
Chicago's South Side. In 1987, she opened a soup kitchen
at St. Martin Parish. From there, she moved to St. John of
God and began, with Oscar Blakeney, the Transitional Living Home
for men at Kelzer Care Center. The Center provided a
secure home plus job skill training, daily meals and health care
services. She also served many people in her soup kitchen
as well as reached out to the children in the neighborhood.
Sr.
Brenda was diagnosed with colon and liver cancer in November of
2003. She underwent radiation and chemotherapy treatments, but
lost her battle on January 5, 2004. She is buried in St.
Joseph Cemetery in Waconia, MN.
