Sr. Consilia (Mary Wilma) Balmes, SLW

August 12, 1925 - December 9, 1988

Sr. Consilia was born August 12, 1925 in Evanston, Illinois.  She received her degree from DePaul University in Chicago.

Consilia was a history teacher in elementary and high school.  She later received a Masters in Counseling for high school.  At her last two places of ministry, she taught art.

Consilia's name is so closely connected with art.  She will long be remembered for her beautiful art in community documents and note cards.  One of the pictures in her photo album was of one of her birthday cakes that was decorated with the words:  YOU COLORED OUR LIVES.  Her art will long be a reminder of that.

Consilia died December 9, 1988 from a brain hemorrhage.  She is buried in All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, IL.

Sr. Consilia ministered at the following locations:

St. John, Detroit, MI

St. Boniface, Minneapolis, MN

Josephinum High School, Chicago, IL

Motherhouse, Wilmette, IL

Heelan High School, Sioux City, IA
