Sr. Agnes Martinka, SLW

I am a native of Minnesota.  My challenging and most enjoyable ministry for 46 years has been as teacher and principal in parish elementary schools in Illinois, Louisiana, and Minnesota.

During the last seven years of my education ministry, I served as lead principal in the consolidated elementary Catholic schools of Hopkins and Minnetonka, Minnesota.  This three-parish involvement offered me challenging opportunities to reflect God’s love, teaching the good news of Jesus and celebrating the Word in our daily life.  We provided excellent education opportunities to children, parents, and the total school community.  United programs and activities also touched our city community.

Now I am retired from active ministry but I continue to be involved in the SLW mission.  I am very involved in visiting the sick in the hospital.  Besides bringing them the Eucharist, I spend time listening with my ear and my heart in order to ease their fears and concerns.  I am also an active member on the school board at a neighboring Catholic School.  I am present to the wonderful people in our area who are SLW Associates, often leading them in retreat gatherings, social contacts, or whatever arises.

God has given me the gift of love and the ability to share it warmly with God’s people.  Wherever I ministered in my life, I have always helped others to strive toward reaching their potential.  Sometimes this was done by an encouraging word, entrusting them with a responsibility, or pointing them in the right direction.  This has been my Living Word Mission.
