Sr.
Angela Ashbey, SLW
My
special call to the Sisters of the Living Word came to me in
graduate school. When some of my professors told us about the
importance of God’s Word which was and is living and active in
us and Scripture, I experienced being called to a new way of
sharing God’s Word in my life and ministry.
My word
and my challenge as a Living Word is to be the “Balm of Giliad”
in the lives of those around me. We are challenged to share our
faith journeys together.
After
twenty years of being a teacher, coach, athletic director,
pastoral associate and pastoral care minister at Wynhoven Health
Care, I am now retired. I daily connect with people and share
the Light of the Living Word as I participate on the staff of
our newly organized Our Lady of Guadalupe Bible Institute. I
also participate on the leadership team for the Westbank
Catholic Charismatic Prayer Group of greater New Orleans
Louisiana; serve the Music Ministry for Magnificat on the
Westbank – (a spiritual group for Women); volunteer as pastoral
care minister at Wynhoven apartments, West Jefferson Hospital,
and Wynhoven Health Care Center in Marrero; and, participate in
leading scripture sharing groups.
Even
though I am retired, I am actively adjusting to my new
ministries to which God calls me. I readily sing my song each
day as I build faith, hope, and love: “People who need People
are the luckiest, really blessed, people in the world.”
