Sr. Mary
Louise Coccimiglio, SLW
Let me
introduce you to Mary Louise Coccimiglio, aka `Mary Lou’ before
she decided to become a nun. Once received into the Community
of her choice, she assumed the name of `Carmen’.
Carmen
was a `late bloomer’ in that she followed the call to be
a religious six years after high school graduation. She worked
in the business world gaining invaluable experience as a
secretary. This experience helped her to become an efficient
high school business teacher.
Life as
a professed religious has been full of surprises. After
teaching 24 years (including grades 5-12) Carmen felt called to
be a Pastoral Associate. Simultaneously, God was calling her to
move from her present community to become a Sister of the Living
Word. Strength for such a move comes primarily from the Living
Word – Jesus whom she professed to follow and reflect.
In
reflecting the Word in her ministry Carmen finds that she gets
more than she gives. Being a Pastoral Associate allows her to
lead adults to full communion in the Church through the RCIA.
Other areas of her ministry allow her to free those oppressed by
troubled marriages that need to be annulled; to help the poor
who come to the parish looking for a handout; and to comfort
those who mourn by leading a meaningful wake service. These are
but a few of the ways that the Word is reflected in her ministry
and in her life.
Now
`Carmen’ is returning to her birth name of `Mary Louise’ in
answer to another call which is a reminder that she is
completing her baptismal call: to spread the Good News in
today’s world.
