Sr.
Eileen Lowe, SLW
In 3rd
grade I remember thinking about becoming a “Sister". So after I
graduated from high school, I went back and talked to one of the
Sisters about joining the order. Well I do believe that she is
still laughing at the thought because, back in the 60’s I guess
I was not “convent material.”
So off to
the business world I went. I worked at TIME Magazine for 15
years. During those years I grew up and learned a lot about
life and myself. Then when I turned 33 the Lord worked it out
that I made a weekend retreat, at which my life began a new
journey. After the retreat I knew that I was being called to do
more with my life and once again looked into joining a Religious
Order.
The Sister
who ran the retreat was a Sister of Christian Charity. I
entered that Community and the Lord kept me there for 10 years.
After the 10 years, I transferred to the Sisters of the Living
Word in 1988.
Since
entering religious life I have received a BA and a Masters in
Social Work and I have worked full time and/or part time in the
following ministries: Shelter for Battered Women, Howard Area
Community Center, Warrenville Youth and Family Service, Loving
Outreach to Survivors of Suicide (LOSS), Counselor at two area
high schools, Administrator and Dean of Students at another high
school. I am presently a Counselor at a newly formed grade
school, which has two campuses in the south suburbs of Chicago.
I enjoyed
very much the years that I worked at TIME Magazine, but I can’t
help thinking that all those years spent getting yesterday’s
news out to the subscribers cannot be compared to what I have
been doing for the last 28 years—helping people to find the ever
changing Glory in their lives, as they follow their unique
journey that the Lord has set down for them.
