Sr.
Jeannine Randolph, SLW
I was drawn
to religious life at an early age and entered the Sisters of
Christian Charity in Wilmette. Since the Sisters of Christian
Charity were primarily a teaching community, I taught in both
elementary and high school levels.
It was
during my early 30’s that a turning point happened in my
interior life comprising three aspects that would change me
forever: 1) my first directed retreat, followed the next year by
a 30-day Jesuit retreat; 2) my studies and degree in Scripture,
and 3) becoming a Sister of the Living Word. The study of
Scripture took place over a period of eight years. It is in
Scripture that I find God most clearly. The third aspect is a
gift from God and my Sisters for which I am exceedingly
grateful: the founding of the Sisters of the Living Word.
The years
following the formation of the SLW unfolded as I continued to
teach at St. Gregory grade and high school in Chicago. By 1981,
after teaching 21 years, I felt a call to parish work as a
pastoral associate. Some of my ministries during the next 16
years of pastoral work were Scripture Classes, Ministry of Care,
Bereavement, RCIA, and outreach to the poor in the local
community. An integral part of my ministry and teaching was to
show the compassion and love of our God for each person.
I believe so
much in the body-mind-spirit connection that I explored massage
therapy as a ministry. This is what my ministry is to this day.
As we
meet together each summer in Assembly, I am amazed at all the
strength and energy our Sisters have and I find it a real source
of encouragement and support for myself.
