Sr.
Joanne Ginter, SLW
I believe my
call to the Sisters of the Living Word emerged while I was a
member of the Sisters of Christian Charity, teaching at St.
Theresa School in Palatine, Illinois. The call that I was
hearing was that of living life to the full, which I did not
believe I was experiencing in the SCC community.
Sr.
Annamarie Cook planned a meeting for anyone interested in
knowing more about forming a new community. I had received her
letter of invitation and decided to attend the meeting. I knew
I was where the Spirit had led me because of the deep peace I
experienced when I walked into the meeting room filled with 90
SCCs who also shared the same call.
When I am
asked the reason for becoming a Sister of the Living Word my
response is that I desired unity with diversity in relation to
prayer, community living and ministry. As a Sister of the
Living Word I have had the privilege of being part of the
process of realizing my call to live life to the full.
My
ministries during these past 30 years as an SLW have been as an
elementary teacher, parish minister, and presently as secretary
in an elementary school. In each of these ministries my desire
has been to help others be consciously aware of God’s presence
in their life.
As we celebrate our 30th anniversary as a
Community, I am excited that we are expanding our vision to
meeting the needs of the Church and society in which we live.
The Word becomes “fresh” each time we speak life-giving words,
each time we live life-giving words. I pray that we will
continue to be open to God’s unfolding revelation to us as
Sisters of the Living Word in the 21st century.
