Sr. Jose’
Moos, SLW
All my life
I wanted to be a Sister. My parents encouraged me all the way.
My dad asked me to finish high school first, and I did. My
parents stood by my plans. After high school I joined the
Sisters of Christian Charity, where I felt I belonged. After my
years of training, I taught in elementary and secondary schools
mostly in Detroit and Chicago. Often I was missioned in places
where people were very poor.
In 1975 I
joined the group of Sisters who formed the new Community, the
Sisters of the Living Word. The change was a painful choice,
but I felt it was a good one. With the change of communities, I
had the opportunity to enter the medical field, at first as a
caregiver in the Chicago area, and later as a hospital chaplain
in Texas. This was a ministry where I could again speak God’s
Word to those in my care.
I worked
many years past the normal retirement age, but the time did come
for me to retire. I now live at Our Lady of Wisdom Health
Center in New Orleans. Here I have kept busy making children’s
quilts, an activity that I find restful and enjoyable. I live
with other Religious Priests, Brothers and Sisters who are an
inspiration to me.
