Sr. Lisa
Polega, SLW
In the late
90’s, I attempted to remain open to the newness of possibilities
and found myself propelled out of my usual comfort zone of
single career woman. What some may consider “a calling,” I
experienced more as a nudging, and a sense that something has
got to change. In1999, the SLW and I began the initial stages
of incorporation that culminated with my first profession of
vows on May 1, 2004.
Exploring
the concept of sustainability often directs the choices I make
as a consumer and increases my awareness of the impact my
choices have on local economies, poverty, racial inequality and
more. My dream is to minister where the concepts of
sustainability and creation-based spirituality can be
appreciated and translated into environmental justice with a
hands-on approach.
I have
temporarily stepped away from the environmental field and
continue to explore possibilities and passions as they develop
in new ministry opportunities out of my comfort zone. I now
work as a job developer for Trilogy, Inc. whose mission is to
empower individuals with psychiatric disabilities to reach their
full potential. My ministry as a job developer is to assist the
clients to find rewarding employment where an individual with a
mental illness can attain self-confidence and financial
self-sufficiency. I am continually impressed by the human
spirit’s ability to reach beyond limitations commonly imposed by
society. The mission of the Sisters of the Living Word has
fostered a sense of freedom and unleashed a creative energy that
will move in continuing new and unexpected ways.
