Sr. Mary
Ann Grausam, SLW
I’m from a
small town in rural Minnesota. Being the second child and first
daughter of a family of 8 there was never a quiet moment in the
family home. My school years were carefree and at the end of
high school I was happy to keep it that way, until my parents
put the big ultimatum to me “college or a job.” Faced with the
question of what to do, I touched back to my earlier desire to
enter the Convent. My trip to the convent in Illinois was a
family adventure and my Dad’s parting words to me were, “Here’s
a dime to call me when you want to come home.” That dime was in
my pocket for over nine years and at the time of my final vows
it was put in the poor box.
Most of my
ministry has been in the big cities of Chicago and Detroit where
I have taught primary children and was Director of a large
Religious Education program. I served as a pastoral minister in
inner city Detroit and helped with our community formation
programs. Presently, I am using all my experiences as an
educator, pastoral minister and formation director in the home
missions of Mississippi, collaborating with the Sacred Heart
Southern Missions. As social minister, I provide assistance and
advocacy in two of the northern counties in Mississippi.
Looking
at the future of Living Word Community I know that we have a
solid foundation to build on into the future. The words of our
Mission Statement will surely provide a potent vision for the
days to come.
