Sr. Mary
Ann Zrust, SLW
My life
began on a farm in Minnesota. As a result, the environment and
land has always been very precious to me. I experience this
gift not only as a source of life, but also as a place for
reflection and an invitation to solitude. Having attended a
Catholic grade school in rural Minnesota, the support of my
parents, coupled with the example of the Sisters who taught me
and, most of all, God's beckoning, led me to embrace religious
life.
Today I find
myself continuing to follow God's call as a Sister of the Living
Word. Looking back over the past 30 years as an SLW, my desire
to reflect and affirm the Word became reality in the various
ministries to which I was called. God's presence assisted me in
the leadership role within the Community of the Sisters of the
Living Word as well as my service at St. Mary of Celle Parish in
Berwyn, Illinois as a pastoral associate. This presence of God
continued to sustain my ministry in these last years as
associate director with the Vicars for Priests in Chicago.
Through all this time it was my goal to bring new life through
the Word to the various situations in which I ministered.
The spark of
Living Word continues to ignite within me life, energy, and
vitality. Presently, I am beginning a period in my life that
will be a bit more relaxed enabling me to dream new ways of
reflecting and affirming the Word. I hope to be present to a
peace and justice endeavor as well as engage in writing history
for the Sisters of the Living Word. Openness to the Word and
its promptings continues to be my focus so that new life may
blossom in unexpected ways. This gives me hope for the future.
