Sr. Mary de Lourdes
Charbonnet, SLW
When I
answered the call to religious life I did so because I felt the
leaders had a broad vision of the Church, were people of faith
and shared it with others.
As the
founding principal of St. Edward the Confessor School I have led
the school through the many changes that have occurred since
l965, and focused on preparing our students for the 21st
century. I am a hands-on principal and an advocate for students
and parents. I participate in every school and church event
that I possibly can. This affords me the opportunity to get to
know families and helps them to get to know me and feel
comfortable around me.
Despite
my tenure, I have never tired of my ministry. In the elementary
school I taught most of the grades. I taught in St. Louis,
Detroit and New Orleans. Teaching children and working with
parents are enjoyable and exciting.
When I
look back on my religious vocation I can see the hand of God in
it. I did not want to enter religious life. I had the world by
the tail and wanted to keep it that way. Finally, when I could
not find peace of soul, I spoke to a priest who advised me to
try it, and if I felt it wasn’t the life for me to leave. I
decided to take his advice and go for two weeks. I went for TWO
WEEKS AND STAYED SIXTY YEARS!
