Sr. Rita
Worm, SLW
Becoming a
Sister of the Living Word in 1975 was a journey of faith into
the unknown, with hope for a future of renewed life in the
Spirit, and ministry that would take me where the need was.
Being an SLW called me to focus more intently on the Gospel, to
be more conscious of teaching and living the Word where it is
not always understood.
My ministry
continues in the education of youth, both in Catholic Schools as
teacher and administrator, and as parish coordinator of
Religious Education, which includes adults. The fulfillment I
find in education happens as I experience young people
developing their talents in areas of their interest. Unlocking
the English language with students who speak a foreign language
at home is one of my challenges. Working among children of
different ethnic backgrounds is in itself an education for all
of us.
Some of the
most meaningful moments I’ve had in my years of teaching or
administering include praying together as a whole school at
Liturgy; encouraging the students to help poor children both in
Minnesota and in other countries; and, helping the students
realize we are all God’s children with different social and
cultural backgrounds, all deserving of respect.
Finally, the
most awesome gift to me is the time spent teaching the Catholic
religion to, and studying Scripture with adults seeking to join
the Catholic Church.
Since
southwestern Minnesota is my place of birth, I want to give back
to my home state some of what my parents and family gave me as I
grew up here.
