Sr.
Rosalie Erdmann, SLW
Born in
LeMars, Iowa, I began my religious life in 1949 as a Sister of
Christian Charity. My ministry was teaching in New Orleans,
Detroit, and Chicago. I was among the ninety women who began
the new community in 1975. I can still recall the strong
emotion that filled me when I heard the announcement, “You will
be called by a new name: Sisters of the Living Word.”
For the last
28 years I have taught in the Theology Department at Bishop
Heelan Catholic High School. This ministry enabled me to live
the spirit of the Community by bringing the Word to thousands of
students over the years. Also, I was moderator of the school
Mission Club, so I could encourage students to live the Gospel
message in everyday life by sharing with those less fortunate.
In May
2004, I retired after 53 years of teaching. I still endeavor to
bring God’s Word as lector, Eucharistic Minister, part of the
RCIA, visiting the sick, and comforting those who have lost a
loved one. I substitute at Heelan High School and volunteer in
the community. I read for the blind through the Sioux City IRIS
program. I am involved in social justice issues by contacting
legislators via the Internet. I particularly enjoy my quiet
times for prayer and reflection. Now I think my ministry is one
of presence. I never know what surprise God has in store for me
each day.
