Sr.
Rosaria Schlechter, SLW
I grew up on
a farm in Waconia, Minnesota. My dear parents shared their deep
faith and trust in God during those years and that became a part
of who I am.
There are
many words that come across the minds of persons who describe
me. Some of the names are: educator, faithful friend, nurturing
presence, compassionate, woman of integrity, a Sister of the
Living Word. It was after some thirty years in religious life
that I felt called to be a part of forming this new community.
The name alone called me to enter into a deeper reflection on
the meaning of our title. It spoke of being a Living Word,
which meant nurturing a life of prayer that calls for a
continual building up of a deeper relationship with God.
In my
ministry as educator, I always felt privileged to be a part of
the formation of the lives of the children from various cultures
and backgrounds. I wanted to help instill good Christian moral
values in them for life. Teaching and being in a school
situation have given me many opportunities to break open the
Word of God with leaders of the future.
After 57
years of such a beautiful ministry, I continue to remember that
all are precious in God’s eyes because all are created in God’s
image. I will allow God to be with me on the journey, and trust
that I will be able to bring new life to others whom I will yet
meet along the way.
