Sr. Ruth
Platte, SLW
Being of
service to others was instilled in me from my earliest days
growing up in a large family and being raised in a small town
rural environment. In my village, our Catholic Church and
school were the center of our lives and we learned to care for
the whole parish family.
My journey
in ministry as a teacher, Director of Religious Education and
Pastoral Associate has carried me to the inner city of Chicago,
to the rural parishes of Minnesota, to city and country parishes
in Louisiana and Illinois and even to the “hollers” of
Kentucky. The key focus for me has been to bring new life to
those along the way who seemed to be without hope. Several
years I was privileged to be a director of Catholic Charities of
Chicago South Suburban Office.
Today I
am engaged in ministry of life long faith formation in Central
Florida in the Catholic Community of St. Paul in Leesburg.
For me, it is important to work collaboratively with others, to
encourage others to share their faith, and to nurture faith in
others. It is especially rewarding in planning and
bringing about our parish multicultural, intergenerational faith
events during the year. When our programs give people a
new sense of what it means to "be Church" I sense the Living
Word is among us bringing us to new life.
What I find personally rewarding is
attending to the spiritual needs of adults by offering retreats,
Catholic update sessions, and walking with those seeking to come
in to the Church through the RCIA. It is such a privilege
to walk with others on their journey of faith and witness the
action of the Spirit in the lives of others.
