A Letter from Mission Advancement
2025 has marked the 50th Anniversary of the Sisters of the Living Word! It has been a time for the Sisters, and for all of us who hold them dear to our hearts, to celebrate in gratitude for all that these years have meant to them. In planning how to bring this momentous year to life the Sisters, and our small team of support staff, dug deep into their calling to be witnesses to Christ alive in our world, in each other, and in all creation.
Here are few of the ways that we commemorated SLW’s 50th Anniversary:
The Sisters and the Associates gathered together to share heartfelt days of reflection and prayer, rooted in and inspired by the life story and writings of Sister Annamarie Cook, SLW’s Foundress.
We planned, held, and traveled to 12 very special events across the country to reunite our Sisters with the communities that they spent decades serving in and living with.
In championing our steadfast dedication to serve the marginalized and oppressed, we made the bold decision to increase our 2025 Ministry Grants program. We committed to raising $50,000 in financial support and assistance to award to impactful organizations that align with our mission, many of which are struggling to stay afloat in the current economic and political climate. In expanding the program we received the most applications that we have ever seen, and awarded 18 grants this year - more than we have ever granted before.
Our Sisters and dedicated Associate groups continued their gatherings and projects focused on sharing the Word, living the Gospel, helping the vulnerable and oppressed, and protecting the environment.
We held a successful 2025 All That Jazz fundraising event to support the efforts of SLW toward justice in the areas of immigration reform, dismantling racism, and care of the Earth.
We are looking forward to sharing more of the details and pictures from this very special year in our upcoming special edition of OutWORD, which will be released shortly after this issue in early 2026! (You will notice that the issue of OutWORD shared in this Good News covers Summer 2024 through Fall 2025, but the 50th Anniversary events and ministry grants have been held for the special edition).
